"Sensational! I'm shocked. This makes me very happy"
Ronald Prent, Galaxy Studio's, Belgium

"Very impressive"
Steve Hall, Future Disc, Los Angeles

2006, October 5th
. At the San Francisco AES we can be found at booth #1311, which is in the 'Audio Underground' aisle. We are very proud to be in this great group of companies!

2006, September 30th. Oops... the MP1 prototype has just beaten our private 'cost no object' reference!

2006, September 1st. Our own high performance jitter analyser is finished. We now have the world's most sensitive jitter analyser on our bench to support our research into oscillator circuitry.

2006, May 20th. At the Paris AES we introduce the MP1 tube microphone power supply. It can be heard powering the Microtech Gefell UM75. Visitors were impressed by the sound, certainly after hearing there was a whole AD/DA loop in the chain as well.

2005, December 1th. Grimm Audios first advertisement is placed in Pro Audio Reviews 'Clocks and Converters buyers Guide'. The CC1 advertisement features a slogan by Bob Katz (thanks Bob!).

2005, December. Bloomline Studios recording of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble (with AD1, see below) received a '10 out of 10' score by Dutch Classical Music magazine 'Luister' and Dutch HiFi magazine 'HVT' wrote: "either this is the best recording of 2005, or it will be damn difficult to surpass it in 2006".

2005, November 19th. The AD1 is travelling around at the US East coast. Everyone so far is impressed by its qualities. Mark Conese of high end studio and label Ambient Records wrote: "Congratulations, you have made the best sounding A/D converter I have ever heard! (...) The AD1 made the most realistic recording of my piano that I have ever heard. It was better than any digital or analog that I have ever heard. Incredibly realistic and involving."

2005, October 15th. After the show we stayed in the area or a few days to visit some well known studios like Sterling Sound, Sony Music and the nice 'Music Palace Recordings Studios'. Both AD1 and CC1 reaped universal praise.

2005, October 10th. The New York AES show was very successful. Many people stopped by our booth to learn more about our products, some of whom invited us to their studio to try the AD1 or the new CC1 out for themselves. In particularly the CC1 attracted attention because nearly any studio can benefit greatly from its quality. The CC1 even received the "Pro Audio Review Excellence Award 2006"!

2005, September 10th. Dutch famous Netherlands Wind Ensemble was recorded live by Leo de Klerk of Bloomline Studio. Leo compared the AD1 to his normal (state of the art) setup and got very excited. "This is a revelation. It is the first time in my 20 years of digital recording that I hear a fundamental improvement in sound quality. There is a dramatic increase in space and resolution. The sound is very coherent, all spectral parts of an instrument are localised at the same spot, both tones and noises. There is a dramatic increase in realism. This is really a big step forward for sound reproduction technology. It's been a long time that a recording of my own gave me the chills like this. The AD1 has revitalised my enthusiasm for this beautiful metier."

2005, August. The AD1 is now completely finished after a modification of the input circuit to cater for asymmetrical signal sources and a redesign of the power supply that saw the power consumption cut by nearly 20W and stray magnetic fields eliminated. Apart from running cooler, the AD1 is now also sounding even better than before.

2005, May 28th. We broke all our development records and have a beautiful prototype of the CC1 on the Barcelona AES show. It is even in full operation, locking a CD transport for playback of the Beethoven Sonatas album. The Barcelona convention appears well attended and European engineers and press show great interest in both the CC1 and AD1.

2005, Februari 3rd. On a short trip we visited a few large studios in London. At Air Studios a special experiment was performed. We demonstrated the 'clock cleaning' quality of the AD1's clock board by inserting the unit in the word clock loop of a Digidesign Sync I/O and '192' AD converter. The AD1 slaved to the Sync I/O's wordclock and the AD1's word clock output fed the 192. We then compared a recording made using this configuration with a normal setup. Chief engineer Tim Vine-Lott was amazed: "I didn't know clock influence was that big!". On this trip we decided to take this feature of the AD1 to a seperate box and develop the CC1, our Clock Cleaner and word clock distributor.

2004, November 22nd. Jared Sacks and Hein Dekker of famous Dutch label Channel Classics recorded the SACD album 'Complete Beethoven Sonatas & Variations' by cellist Pieter Wispelweij and pianist Dejan Lazic using the AD1. The resulting sound quality is breathtaking.

2004, November 16th. Dutch recording engineer Rico Yntema and Japanese producer Yasushi Hamase made the first commercial recording using an AD1 (an organ music SACD that will be completed in 2006). They were very enthusiastic about its quality: "A world class machine!".

2004, November 5th. After the AES show we have been visiting a few studios in the US West Coast area. All were very positive about our AD1. To quote a few of them:
Kevin Gray, Acoustech, Camarillo: "I wish I had your converters on some of the SACD's I've been releasing in the past. This will convince some of my customers to keep releasing SACD's."
Steve Hall, Future Disc, Los Angeles: "Very impressive"
Charlie Watts, Technovoice, Los Angeles: "A stellar device"

2004, November 1th. We have a very succesful AES show in San Francisco. Scott Dorsey of Positive Feedback gave the AD1 | Grimm the 'Best new product in Show' award. Quoting: "Certainly one of the more carefully designed A/D converters I have seen in a while, and the simplicity of the DSD process makes it possible to implement with op-amps and comparators rather than relying on monolithic converter chips."

2004, October. Henry Dienn of High End Ltd has become our distributor for the Japanese market. Henry Dienn has long time experience in both professional and consumer audio sales and engineering. We are very glad he has chosen to support Grimm Audio and are confident that he will provide high quality service to our Japanese customers.

2004, October 15th. MediArte in Rotterdam has entered an agreement with us to become our distributor for Europe and the United States. MediArte is known as long time distributor for Sonic Solutions and Sonic Studio, as well as Minetonka and ZooTech software, and recently have become worldwide distributor of the Philips ProTech SACD authoring tools. MediArte's large reseller network spans all of Europe in addition to Russia and South Africa. They will also ship Grimm Audio products to selected US resellers.

2004, Juli 2nd. Today we visited Galaxy Studio's in Belgium for our first demo. In his mastering room Ronald Prent ran the 1/2" tape he had just finished through a chain of the Grimm Audio AD1 and his preferred DA converter. Switching between the direct tape feed and the converter chain Ronald caught himself peeking at the switch position. He said this meant he could not hear any difference between the two at all. "Sensational" he kept repeating. "I'm shocked, in a positive sense: this makes me very happy! I have never found this quality in any commercial AD converter."

2004, May 8th. Grimm Audio hits the floor of the Berlin AES show with an 8 channel 1-bit A/D converter aimed squarely at the audiophile end of the market. The AD1 will be exhibited at the Berlin AES from May 8th to May 11th. We kindly invite you to visit booth #2921 which we share with Dutch microphone manufacturer SD Systems. You will be able to admire the beautifully build chassis, listen to the first recordings made with the AD1 and discuss the design with one of our engineers.
