The major Hong Kong High End audio magazine HiFi Review did a review of the LS1be with DMF subs with no less than four reviewers, and made it their cover story. The reviewers were unanimously amazed. Please enjoy a translation of their judgements:
1) “The Grimm Audio LS1 playback system, which was selected as radio and recording monitoring system for the famous Amsterdam ‘Concertgebouw’ Concert Hall in the Netherlands, was definitely stunning in quality! If you prefer a coloured sound, this system may not be for you, but even then you should spend some time with it and perhaps change your opinion. If however you like to enjoy a fresh experience of fast, solid and accurate music reproduction for all kinds of music, this system will surprise you!” (River Chan)
2) “Hifi enthusiasts don’t need to worry over the sound quality of the LS1be+ LS1s-dmf’s, nor over the required financial resources or space requirements. They only need self-examination about whether they are in this audio game to ‘play the machine’ or to listen to music. If the latter is the case, then this set of speakers will give you tremendous fun, and it will be almost impossible to achieve the same sound quality when spending the same price on separate hifi components.” (Archimedes Chan)
3) “When just looking at this active two-way bookshelf speakers with upward firing active subwoofer, I could never have imagined such powerful low frequency performance. Drum sounds can be played at high sound pressure levels, with a solid and strong kick drum. The sound is clean, fast and without resonance of its own. The low-frequency temporal resolution is high, and the rendering of tonal pitch in the extremely low-frequency range is very precise. This skill alone is worth more than €50,000!”” (Sam Ho)
4) “The Grimm LS1be offers a much higher absolute audio quality than all of the overpriced astronomical speakers on today’s premium audio market. During the entire audition process of the review, only music files were used as a source. Undoubtedly I heard the best computer file playback to date. To demonstrate the LS1be’s low-distortion performance, we played a loud techno dance track, that shook my pants and pushed my heart to my brain! Even at these extremely high sound pressure levels, not the tiniest trace of distortion or compression was heard!” (Zhong Yi).
