6Moons: a personal bow to SQM

July 13, 2020

In a hilarious introduction, 6Moons editor in chief Srajan Ebaen compares reviewing cables to mucking stables – an important but somewhat uninviting task. In spite of this he manages to write a poetic and sparkling review that reveals he was really inspired by our SQM cable. We can only recommend to read the full review since it is entertaining and very well written, and for instance Srajan’s eloquent commentary on the audiophile notion of ‘neutrality’ is very much to the point.

To quote a few sentences as an invitation for you to read the full text, we copy some fragments in which Srajan compares SQM to the reference cable he had been using for quite some time:

“Had our system played more or less neutral before? We know this to be a meaningless and unanswerable question. Let’s deal with ‘what’. The difference wasn’t on amplitude. It implied no more or less bass, mids or treble. It didn’t play tone control. It affected gestalt or feel. Enter the polarity of damped/fluid and its taut/relaxed shadow. The 6 x costlier silver/gold leashes had the sound a bit more on the front foot of leading edges. That gave a small nod to crispness. The black-sleeved Dutchies shifted some weight onto the rear foot of trailing edges. It gave a small nod to elasticity. Emphasis on small.

(…)

Neither presented as less lucid. Just as small differences of air moisture don’t impact our vision, these cable swaps didn’t affect subjective transparency or low-signal magnification. That’s why I call them gestalt or feel based.

(…)

In my book, far lower pricing and enhanced functionality alone won the day. That I also found the sound even more appealing tied up my subjective assessment with a very personal bow.”
