We have great news to share with our LS1 system owners. After many years of development, the LS1 firmware and LS1 Control (PC/Mac/Linux) software are now released as free updates. Both pieces of software have painstakingly been rebuilt from the ground up. Great care has been taken to offer existing users a safe and solid update experience. This software introduction is the strongest statement we can imagine to show our dedication to the LS1 platform. We are serious in taking our existing customers on our journey towards ever improving audio quality.
The LS1 firmware update brings many stability improvements and a serious upgrade in sound quality. Without doubt, it forms the basis of the international acclaim of the LS1c. The new code also opens doors to future improvements of sonics and functionality. This leap in quality is now available to all LS1 owners.
The new LS1 Control software runs on a PC, Mac or Linux computer in combination with a Grimm Audio USB interface such as an LS1i, UC1 or Grimm Audio USB Control cable. It now has a similar feel as the MU1 GRUI web interface. Both platforms offer access to all LS1 settings, and let the user select sources, volume, mute, etc. For professional audio users, the LS1 Control software goes one step further than the GRUI by offering direct control of many special functions that sound engineers desire when working on a mix or master – as illustrated in the screenshot. Another unique feature of the LS1 Control software is the ability to perform an LS1 firmware update (which is not possible with the MU1).
To complement the redesigned software, the LS1 manual has been rewritten from the ground up. We present it to you still in a basic layout, it will receive the stylish Grimm Audio physical manual formatting later this year. The document offers deep insight in all features of the LS1 and the LS1 Control software. It’s a must read for anyone interested in the LS1 technology, whether an audiophile or professional user.
We like to deeply thank our dedicated LS1 software engineer Simon Jaasma for building such beautiful pieces of software, and our chief software engineer Michiel Schriever who keeps pushing the boundaries of the LS1 DSP processing into regions no one ever went before. The size of this project can hardly be overestimated.
LS1 customers, please download the LS1 Control software from our software update page. The LS1 firmware is built into the LS1 Control, please read instructions about how to perform the update in the Software Install Guide that you find in the download page. In case you have an MU1, you will need to temporarily connect a computer with a Grimm Audio LS1i interface or Grimm Audio USB Control cable to your LS1s. Note that the update can also be done with a UC1, but in that case you first need to run an update of the UC1 firmware.
