The prime Dutch online audiophile magazine hifi.nl published a great review of the PW1. Max Delissen took the PW1 to test with no less than 5 different cartridges. The experience moved him to tears. His conclusion, translated to English, goes like this:
“I have tested quite a few phono stages over the years, and the Grimm PW1 confidently and comfortably nestles itself in a small leading group of ‘best I have ever heard’. And that’s regardless of the price – which I find very competitive, even though it is a lot of money.
Peter van Willenswaard is a true magician, a Phono Wizard, and Grimm Audio has really pulled off a masterstroke with this phono stage. It gets under your skin and encourages you to keep listening till late at night because you just need to play another record, and another. The phenomenon of ‘noise’ is completely alien to it, the only thing that is amplified is the emotion in the music.
Add to that the extensive adjustment options and the extremely wide range of supported cartridges and you have, as a manufacturer, suddenly earned a five-star review. I can’t decide otherwise, the PW1 is a fantastic and very special phono stage.”
