The Czech online publication Hifi Voice posted a review of our LS1c-SB1 & MU1 system. Daniel Březina listened to the set in two rooms. He checked out all settings and also performed extensive measurements. The system did not stop to amaze him.
About his measurements: “If any speaker can be labeled as ‘linear’, it must be the LS1c. Its behavior is controlled regardless of the size of the space. Energy is already present somewhere around 25 Hz and apart from the influence of the acoustic parameters of the room, the result is exemplary balanced. It’s hard to find any traces of a character of its own through the one caused by the influence of acoustics.”
In his listening report he first mentions the bass reproduction of a track by Brian Bromberg:
“Without the subwoofer (in 2-way mode), the LS1c system serves it in rock-solid form, perfectly phrased and stretched like a steel string. No rumbling, no feeling of tremendous robustness, which often arises from a “loosening” of tones. Here we hear a perfectly clean tone, brilliantly articulated. And if you add the subwoofers, the range deepens so that a pinch of the body is added, but the puristic authenticity does not change. Tone after tone fantastically accurate, fast and strong. Unlike conventional hi-fi production the sound is factual and informative. (…)
The degree of transparency, resolution and energy in the middle band is simply fascinating. The LS1c’s behave as if there were a single driver (a point source). You can’t distinguish the individual frequency bands, and all bands play with incredible finesse. Next to this, many ultra high-end assemblies just look spectacular but ill-considered. “Going Home” of Sophie Zelmani had a power, presentation and focus for which it is difficult to choose any other word than “reference quality”. Every breath, every reflection from the recording room, every word of the singer and the tone of the instruments, everything was perfectly articulated and controlled. (…)
On the one hand, the Grimm’s show no ambition to create extreme acoustic pressures, but at the same time they handle realistic levels at ease. In addition, dynamic contrast and an extraordinary ‘fastness’ are noticeable regardless of the playback volume. In fact, thanks to the cleanliness and control, they invite you to listen more quietly than usual. (…)
The most brilliant thing is the feeling of total transparency and clear depiction, when a voice sits stable in its place, surrounded by the rustling free space of an empty room. You can almost touch it. (…)
The Grimm Audio LS1c system is an impressive example of technical maturity (and even more so when it is controlled by the similarly solid MU1 source from the same stable). (…)
The LS1c is a highly informative and really unlimited “open window” to music. This is for sure something you should hear, because there can hardly be something ‘more hi-fi.’ “
