The French magazine Vinyle & Audio is well known for publishing a balanced mix of music album and audio equipment reviews. Their author Jean Razzaroli put the MU1 to test and was highly impressed.
“The Grimm Audio MU1 sounds incredibly transparent and resolving. It is able to extract more details than most other streamers that we reviewed. It proved to be even more lively on low amplitude signals, releasing yet more richness and expressiveness. We often talk about digital noise, which pollutes the rendering. Here, the level of such noise must be extremely low.
The sound stage is deep, wide and situated at correct height. The positioning and separation between the orchestra’s musicians is lifelike. The MU1’s ability to render music in an ‘analog manner’ results in a natural, engaging and beautifully musical experience. There’s a fluidity and palpability that draws you into the performance. “Un homme heureux” from the album “Sheller en solitaire” was presented with a tactile dimensionality and an emotional presence that dazzled us.
The oversampled AES/EBU output revealed nuances, refinement, richness of timbre, remarkable tone, resolution, and transparency, all far superior to any streaming device we have tested so far. Plus, our CDs have never sounded better as when playing them via the MU1’s digital input.”
